The historic Strand District is at the core of Galveston Island. It is home to an assortment of restaurants, boutiques, entertaining attractions, art galleries, and more. The Strand National Historic Landmark District and its surrounding areas serve as a hub for activities and entertainment, and popular festivals like Galveston Mardi Gras. Let’s look at this summer’s Movie Nite on the Strand schedule!

Strand Summer 2022: Galveston Movie Schedule

The Strand offers a schedule packed with exciting movies adults and children enjoy. Below is the Galveston movie schedule for Summer 2022.

June 4: Dora and The Lost City of Gold (8:00 PM)

Get to the Strand and watch Dora and The Lost City of Gold with your children! This charming children’s adventure movie follows an inquisitive Latina teenager raised in the depths of the Amazon Rainforest alongside her pet monkey, Boots. Dora faces the ultimate test when enrolling in an American high school.

During a school trip, Dora, her cousin Diego and her two friends escape into the jungle after being kidnapped to track down her parents-who were also kidnapped- where they uncover the mysterious Lost City of Gold. The values from this film that you could reinforce with your kids are courage, teamwork, curiosity, kindness, and perseverance.

July 2: Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle  (8:00 PM)

Jumanji Landscape

Get nostalgic with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. This is definitely not a remake, so strap in for an adventure!

A group of teenagers come across a vintage video game console; they decide to try it out, only to get literally sucked into the game. The only way to get back home is to return the jewel to the Jaguar statue and shout Jumanji. Their trek across the game repairs a friendship that forces someone to become a better person and pulls another out of their shell.

August 6: The Golden Compass (7:30 PM)

Another Galveston movie to watch on the Strand is “The Golden Compass.” Darker and deeper than the “Potter” or “The Chronicles of Narnia,” this film will captivate younger children, and teenagers will be absorbed in it. Based on the Northern Lights trilogy written by Alfred A. Knopf, the movie springs from the same British world of quasi-philosophical magic. However, it poses more exciting questions and complex villains.

“The Golden Compass” centers on a young girl, Lyra, in an alternate universe. She is entrusted with a device, a Golden Compass, by her uncle, Lord Asriel. The compass always tells the truth whenever a user asks it a question. She falls into a quest to stop religious zealots from robbing children of their literal souls.

September 3: Blast from the Past (7:00 PM)

Blast from Past Landscape

The romantic comedy uses satire and irony and has sly undercurrents. It opens with a cocktail party in 1962 at Calvin and Helen Webber’s home. The film centers on Adam, a man out of time, and Eve, a savagely smart woman, and how they were raised in different backgrounds. Watch the romantic time-warp movie at Galveston on the Strand!

October 1: Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (7:00 PM)

Maleficent Landscape 2

The fantasy sequel features Maleficent and her goddaughter Aurora. Aurora is about to marry a Prince whose mother, Queen Ingrith, is a genocidal hate monger. The animosity between the magical creatures and the human kingdom bubbles up even when everyone involved tries to make peace. Curious about how the film plays out to be? Get to watch this Galveston movie on the Strand and satisfy your curiosity!
